The artists featured in this exhibition were born in the first half of the 20th century, when transportation was of a different nature. This exhibit captures the impressions of planes, trains and automobiles as experienced by these Chicago seniors.

The artists have witnessed an amazing amount of change in transportation throughout the decades. Chicago served as a hub in the railroad industry. The Ford Model T came in any color, as long as it was black. To have actually taken an airplane ride was a rarity.

Today, Chicago is home to one of the world's busiest airports and airplanes are the convenient mode of transportation. Automobiles are commonplace and come in many shapes and colors. Chicago continues to be a leader in the rail system, using trains for public transportation and freight. The artists featured in this exhibit present their own impressions of planes, trains and automobiles through a series of water color, pencil, oil, acrylic and abstract impressions.

The artists showcased in this exhibition are affiliated with the Chicago Department on Aging's Renaissance Gallery and the Senior Artists Network. The Senior Artists Network was founded to provide access to exhibition opportunities for artists Age 55 and older and to provide the resources needed to create art.

"Planes, Trains and Automobiles" was sponsored by the Chicago Department on Aging and the Department of Cultural Affairs, in cooperation with the Department of Aviation. For more information about the Senior Artist Network, call 312/744-4551.

This exhibit is located nearby the Post Office at O Hare Airport. Many other exhibits of art are on display at both O Hare and Midway Airports and we invite you to check them out.
