CHICAGO'S AIRPORTS NAMED BEST IN NATION FOR CONCESSIONS PROGRAMS
Airport Revenue News Announces Winners from Its Eighth Annual Poll
CHICAGO -- February 10, 2003 -- O'Hare International and Chicago Midway Airport have received 1st place honors in three categories according to Airport Revenue News' 2003 best airport concessions eighth annual poll. O'Hare International garnered 1st place for Airport with the Best Redeveloped Concessions Program and 1st place for Best Single Terminal for Terminal 1. Chicago Midway received the 1st place award for Airport with the Best Redeveloped Concessions.
"We are honored to be recognized for our innovative concessions programs at both O'Hare and Midway airport," said Aviation Commissioner Thomas R. Walker. "It is important to have as many options as possible for our travelers, while offering a true Chicago culinary experience without ever leaving the airport," he added.
Travelers enjoy a wide variety of local and national food choices at O'Hare, such as Billy Goat's, Fox Sports Skybox, Wolfgang Puck's, The Berghoff and Chili's Restaurant. These full service restaurants and food court style seating make the eating experience comfortable and enjoyable. Innovative local retail options have also been added, including The Field Museum Store and The Chicago Historical Society Shop.
Midway Airport travelers can stroll down "Midway Boulevard," a 50,000 square foot concessions triangle, with outlets representing local shops and renowned Chicago styled restaurants.
The restaurants of "Midway Boulevard" feature unique Chicago cuisine such as Harry Caray's, Manny's Deli, Lalo's Mexican Restaurant, Reilly's Daughter, Luigi Stefani Pizza, Potbelly Sandwich Works, and Gold Coast Dogs. George's Music Room, Viva's Chicago Treasures,
Kid's Corner, Fannie May Candies, and Chicago Market walk are among some of the local retail outlets featured at Midway Airport.
Brick storefronts, colorful canopies and lighting convey a distinctive Chicago neighborhood ambiance surrounded by natural light and with airfield views of aircraft departures and landings.
Nominees for Airport Revenue News' 2003 best airport concessions annual poll categories represent the highest standards in the industry and are determined by key industry participants. Airport Revenue News then designates a panel of industry experts who vote for their favorite nominees. The nominees accumulate points based on a judge's experience and his or her degree of preference for the program or concept. The contenders with the most accumulated points are selected.
