Midway Airport Concessions Program Fact Sheet
(CHICAGO) November, 2000 – Pending City Council approval, restaurants and retailers in the first phase of the concessions program will include:

FOOD
Aero-Dine, LLC will operate three popular Chicago restaurants in the new Midway Airport Concessions Triangle:

  • Pegasus Restaurant & Taverna – This Greektown favorite was hailed as one of the Best Restaurants by Chicago magazine in 1999. Pegasus features a fresh, healthy and light approach to Greek food. Pegasus is owned by Jim Alexander, Yiannis Melidis, and Tony Katsoulias.
  • Lalo's Mexican Restaurant – Homemade Mexican cuisine with only the freshest ingredients. Starting with a small restaurant in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood, Lalo's now operates 12 locations throughout the Chicago area. Lalo’s is owned by Adolfo Castaneda and Alex Cabrera.
  • Gold Coast Dogs – Money magazine's pick for the best hot dog in America will add Midway Airport to its list of 15 current locations. Hamid Hussein, a Gold Coast Dogs franchisee, will operate the Midway facility.

Sixty eight percent of the gross sales from the Aero Dine operations will be generated by MBE's (Minority Business Enterprises). Other restaurants include:

  • McDonald's – Based in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, one of the most recognized brand names in the world will have two locations at Midway. One McDonald's restaurant will be operated in Concourse A and another in Concourse B. Both McDonald's restaurants will be franchised to Phil Fuentes, a local McDonald's owner/operator with two restaurants in Cicero.
  • King Wah Express – Pan Asian appetizers and entrees will be offered at the latest outpost of a popular local restaurant that first opened in Chinatown 36 years ago. The restaurant will be owned and operated by Helen Lee, her son Edwin Lee and her daughters, Alberta and Donna Lee.
  • MAC One – Midway Airport Concessionaires (MAC) is a Chicago-based management company that has operated the food and beverage program at Midway Airport since 1995. MAC One's first new restaurant will bring a north side sports and dining icon to the Midway area with a 4,300-square foot Harry Carey's restaurant in the Concessions Triangle. MAC is jointly owned by Timothy and Rand and his brother Everett Rand.
  • MAC One will also operate six popular Chicago restaurants in phase two of the Concessions Program. 12,000 square feet of space in the concourses will be franchised to Manny's Coffee Shop and Deli, Miller's Pub, Home Run Inn Pizza, Tuscany, Superdawg, Reggio's Pizza, and Juice It Up.
RETAIL
  • Flying Food Group, a 100% woman-owned firm, will operate a specialty gift shop in the concessions triangle. The shop will feature gourmet candies and foods from well-known Chicago companies such as Fannie May Candies, Goose Island Brewery and Eli's Cheesecake as well as products from Chicago institutions like Buddy Guy's Legends, Wrigley Field and white Sox Park. Flying Food is owned by Sue Ling Gin, who's Flying Food Fare has provided airline catering from Chicago since 1983.
