The Department of Aviation, City of Chicago, and the American Association of Airport Executives are hosting the first annual Large Hub Winter Operations Workshop. Large hub airports located in the snow belt must respond to changing seasons and winter weather. The continued safe and efficient operation of these "snow belt" hubs is critical to our nation's air transportation system.
This meeting will bring together representatives from airports, airlines, consultants, manufacturers and key FAA officials. They will discuss techniques being used in large airport winter operations. Critical to the discussions will be a major review of technological advances. A thorough analysis of the many complex issues regarding winter operations will occur as a result of detailed presentations, technology updates, and informative roundtable discussions and debates with and between airport, airline, and air traffic control decision makers.
On Monday, June 26, Chicago O'Hare International Airport will present a static display of snow removal equipment. Chicago O'Hare's Boschung and Vammas units will be included in this display. These technologically advanced snow removal machines are multi-purpose. They are used to plow, broom, and blow snow simultaneously. Also included in the display will be a new, cutting edge, snowmelter that comes from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The Large Hub Winter Operations Workshop will take place at the Hyatt Rosemont from Sunday, June 24, through Tuesday, June 26, 2001. The Department of Aviation is proud to co-sponsor this event with the American Association of Airport Executives.
