Midway Airport Opens New Security Checkpoints
Latest improvement to consolidate security checkpoints
Chicago-On Wednesday, June 20, 2001, new security checkpoints open at Chicago Midway Airport. The latest improvement, part of the Midway Airport Terminal Development Program, will consolidate the security checkpoint to one central location.
"Passengers will now clear security at the west end of the pedestrian bridge. And, in just a short time, just beyond the new security check point will be new restaurants, shops and gates," said Erin O'Donnell, Deputy Commissioner of Aviation.
The security checkpoints at the entrance to the A and B concourse will be permanently closed along with the checkpoint at the C concourse.
Some of the news restaurants opening in the new concessions area include, Pot Belly Sandwiches, Lalo's, a Harry Carey's, a Tuscany and King Wah.
Later this year, passengers will begin boarding at gates located in the new concourse A, B and C buildings.
The Midway Airport Terminal Development Program is the largest public works project currently underway in Illinois and will generate 94,000 permanent and temporary jobs by the year 2010 and nearly $4 billion in economic activity.
