The Computerworld Honors Medallion is presented annually to those who have submitted materials approved and accepted for inclusion in The Computerworld Honors Archives On Line and the archives and permanent research collections of the international institutions supported by the program.

Since 1999, the Chicago Airport System has been saving lives through its Chicago HeartSave Program by implementing the first publicly accessible AED program at O'Hare International and Midway Airports. AED units are strategically placed within a minute walk from any point in both airports.

Established in 1988, the Computerworld Honors Program brings together the Chairmen of the foremost information technology companies in the world to help the world's leading universities, libraries and research institutions document the global information technology revolution by recording the impact of these technology pioneers' achievements on society.

Case studies, video tapes, oral histories, biographies, conference proceedings and publications are preserved, protected, and made available to both scholars and the general public, both online and through a program of source and license donations to affiliated universities, libraries, and research institutions around the world.

Over the course of each year, members of the Chairman's Committee identify those organizations whose use of information technology has been especially noteworthy for the originality of its conception, the breadth of its vision, and the significance of its benefit to society.

In June, from each of the ten fields (Business & Related Services, Education & Academia, Environment Energy & Agriculture, Finance Insurance & Real Estate, Government & Non-Profit Organizations, Manufacturing, Media Arts & Entertainment, Science, Medicine and Transportation) five Laureates deemed most outstanding by a panel of judges distinguished in that field are given special recognition as Worldwide Finalists in ceremonies in Washington, D.C. Finally, one Worldwide Finalist from each field is selected to receive the Computerworld Honors Award.
