O'Hare Voted Best Airport In North America By Business Travelers
Aviation Commissioner Thomas R. Walker announced today that O'Hare International Airport has been voted the Best Airport in North America for the year 2000 by readers of the U.S. Edition of Business Traveler International Magazine. Commissioner Walker accepted the award today at New York's Plaza Hotel.
The U. S. Edition of Business Traveler International has a circulation of 42,229 catering to American business travelers who travel internationally. Readers cast their vote for the "best of the best" in many categories in the magazine's Twelfth Annual Reader's Survey. The survey results were published in the December/January issue of the Magazine. This marks the third consecutive year O'Hare has been honored with this award.
O'Hare International surpassed Hartsfield International, Los Angeles International, Washington Dulles International, and San Francisco International for the top airport rating. The Magazine especially noted O'Hare's large number of carriers and destinations served, making O'Hare one of the "best connected airports in the world."
"We are pleased to be named the Best Airport in North America by those who know us best - our travelers," said Commissioner Walker. "It is satisfying to know that we have created an outstanding airport environment for the traveling public and have been recognized by our successful efforts. We plan to continue offering improved amenities and services to those passengers," he added.
Walker attributes O'Hare's high popularity with experienced travelers to a number of factors including the design and layout of the airport's four terminals, continuous upgrading of concessions and amenities throughout the airport, and an ongoing emphasis on outstanding customer service.
Business travelers have a wide variety of options to choose from when doing business at O'Hare. The Skybird Business Center, located in the Rotunda of Terminal 3 offers conference room facilities specifically designed to accommodate business traveler's needs. Additionally, LapTop Lane locations in Terminal 1 have nearly 30 computer workstations available. Telephones located throughout the four terminal buildings also have plug-ins available for laptop computers.
Since 1995, more than 100 concession locations have opened or been remodeled. O'Hare was named Best Overall Concessions Program and Best Food and Beverage Program for 1999 by Airports Council International.
Since 1997, O'Hare International Airport has experienced tremendous growth internationally. A 10% increase in 1997, 12% in 1998, and 9.3% in 1999 equals a cumulative increase of 31%. This year, international passenger activity has increased by 9.3%.
