New Aviation Commissioner Appointed
Nomination of Nuria Fernandez Passes Chicago City Council

The Chicago City
Council today approved Mayor Richard M. Daley’s nomination to appoint
Nuria Fernandez next Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Aviation,
which operates O’Hare and Midway International Airports.
“Nuria Fernandez knows how to manage big projects and big organizations,
while maintaining a high quality of service and giving top priority to
meeting customer needs,” said Mayor Daley. “I’m confident she will make
a fine airport system even better and maintain Chicago’s international
leadership in air transportation.”
A civil engineer with experience in both the public and private sectors,
Fernandez most recently served as Senior Vice President in charge of the
Major Projects Division of Earth Tech, an international consulting,
engineering and construction company. She also has held positions with
the Federal Transit Administration, the Washington Metropolitan Area
Transit Authority, the Chicago Transit Authority and the former Chicago
Department of Public Works. She replaces John Roberson, who resigned
last October to enter the private sector.
“I am so honored to have been appointed Chicago's next Commissioner of
Aviation,” said Fernandez. “I look forward to working to ensure that the
City continues to benefit from the economic growth and prosperity
generated by its airports, and fulfill Mayor Daley's vision to make
Chicago's airports the best in the nation and in the world.”
