Chicago O'Hare International Airport is located in a noise sensitive area surrounded by residential communities. The preferential runway use plan at the Airport is advisory in nature and does not compromise safety.

When feasible, these procedures should be implemented between 2200 to 0700 (10:00pm to 7:00am) CST in order to minimize the effects of nighttime noise on the surrounding communities.

Unless wind, weather, or loss of NAVAIDS dictate otherwise, the FAA will issue use of the following runways in their preferred order for all aircraft:

1. Arrivals on 14R and departures on 27L and 14R
2. Arrivals on 32L and departures on 27L and 32L
3. Arrivals on 27R and departures on 27L and 32L
4. Arrivals on 22R and departures on 27L and 22R
5. Arrivals on 9R and departures on 9L and 9R
