2005 Construction Awareness Program

Information Regarding O’Hare International Airport’s
Nighttime Construction and Maintenance Program for 2005

For the 2005 Construction Awareness Program, only one airfield project will affect the preferential runways delineated under the Fly Quiet Program. The Federal Aviation Administration’s Airway Facilities division has commenced with an equipment upgrade project for Runway 27L and Runway 27R’s Instrument Landing Systems. A nighttime closure of Runway 9R-27L is anticipated for approximately 60 consecutive nights, barring inclement weather or other complications that could restrict construction operations. The current construction timeframe for this project is from mid-April to July. The Department of Aviation currently has no projects underway, or in design, that would affect the Fly Quiet Program’s preferential runways in 2005.

For more information regarding the potential impacts relating to the preferential runway use under the Fly Quiet Program, please call Mr. Cyle Cantrell at 773-894-5490.

Fact: Runway 9R-27L is O’Hare’s second longest runway and one of the most utilized nighttime runways. Runway 14R-32L is O’Hare’s longest runway and also one of the most utilized for nighttime operations.
