On June 17, 1997, Mayor Richard M. Daley announced that airlines at O'Hare International and Midway Airports have agreed to use designated noise abatement flight procedures under the Fly Quiet Program to further reduce the impact of aircraft noise.
Fly Quiet provides comprehensive guidance for pilots to use designated quiet flight and operating procedures developed by the Department of Aviation in cooperation with the O'Hare and Midway Noise Compatibility Commissions, the airlines, and Air Traffic Controllers.
The following noise mitigation actions are in effect at Midway Airport:
Stage 3 Aircraft
In accordance with with Federal Aviation Administration Regulations, all aircraft flying into
and out of Midway since January 1, 2000 meet Stage 3 requirements.

Construction Awareness Program
The Construction Awareness Program was initiated in 1997 to communicate information related to various construction programs at Midway to the general public. This program evaluates the community noise impacts expected to occur during routine runway and taxiway maintenance, and identifies opportunities to minimize these impacts.
